My passion for gardening and growing plants started at the age of 12. My father ran a gardening business for 20 years and he taught me how to grow Tomatoes in a small greenhouse. Little did I know that it would be the start of a lifelong passion for nature, the outdoors and getting my hands in the soil. I spent all my school holidays learning the craft of gardening, working with my father. By the age of 16 I was skilled with hand and power tools, shaping nature and developing the landscapes of many a garden.
In 2007 I wanted to enhance my knowledge of horticulture and studied at Hadlow College for 2 years. Through early adulthood I worked with my father full time until a desire to try something a little different came along in 2015. Having broken away from the horticultural career, I missed working the land more than I ever thought I would. So I took on an allotment, which quickly expanded to three! It was also where @the_allotment_grower was born on Instagram.
What started off as a way of recording a veg growing diary to assist in my seasonal tasks, soon became a popular little account for other like minded and aspiring veg growers around the world! Covid-19 in 2020 helped thousands of people to appreciate the benefits of growing your own food, getting outside in the garden and improving their mental and physical well-being. However, gardening practices had somewhat changed and the focus on what had always been to achieve perfect, pristine looking plants and gardens was now quite the opposite. It was about growing organically and being environmentally aware of the damage that chemicals were causing to our outdoor spaces and their eco-systems. I worked on my allotments using only organic methods and the results spoke for themselves. A healthy garden is a garden made up of all the beneficial insects and eco-systems that go hand in hand to fight disease and manage pests naturally.
It was then I realised that in the grounds and garden maintenance sector, it is still very much operated non-organically. This is something I want to change and promote within the industry. With the advancement of modern tools, organic fertilisers and herbicides, gardening can be cleaner.
I launched EcoTrim Ltd in 2026 and I am delighted to be working with you, in your gardens in Kent.
